Quaint and fairly clean place, very good stuff on the AM shift. All in all great location, next to castle, shopping malls, restaurants, bus station as well as shops and restaurants. Fairly quiet and absolutely perfect rooms with central heating, TV set and tea/coffee making equipment...

Staff were knowledgeable.
It had very central location close to Colchester Town Hall. I loved the dining room during the breakfast.

The unit was reasonably large and nicely furnished.
Charming old place, it was clean and had incredibly nice and welcoming staff on the AM shift. I stayed in the room that was kept clean and available with full bath, 4 poster bed, for example. I enjoyed the breakfast time in the dining room.

The hotel is well situated in the heart of Colchester with easy access to shops and local places of interest.
The front room that we stayed in was a little noisy and the room was a bit tired looking.

Friendly, helpful staff and good breakfast. The building itself is 600 years old amd full of history
Fixtures and fittings in the hotel seemed cheap and a bit tired. Climbing three flights of stairs to get to our room was hard work

you forgot to tell the red lion that there was 2 of us, and we only had a single room, the hotel was fully booked, not not one bed 2 people

The heating was not put on until 8pm at night despite the weather turning colder. Also the plumbing was archaic and non-functioning

The staff were helpful and the position of the hotel on the high street was handy.Lovely building but not enough made of its features.
This hotel was not up to the standard we were led to believe by the pictures and write up. The rooms were not very clean particularly the bathroom. The shower was broken and the shower practically a trickle. The tea / coffee facilities were poor (we had no coffee!) and it felt run down. Although the staff replaced the coffee and fixed the shower (sort of) when we reported these issues it was still not up to a good standard.

Just a solid selection for a city escape in Colchester with very nice value for money. Every morning there was a very good breakfast buffet that was delicious. Make sure to ask staff about the hotel's history for a nice touch.

It's location, it is on the high street and could not possibly be any closer to town even if they tried!

This location was very good for the wedding reception we were axttending at the Town Hall. The young lady in reception was very helpful and excellant at her job. The breakfast was varied and well cooked.
Our room although spacious being at the front of the hotel the noise from the High Street was such that it was impossible to sleep. There also did not appear to be any hot water in the morning.
